An island, a tuna fishery, and a project that intertwines art, memory, and social transformation. The new edition of Giudicesse2030, the artist residency program that will bring artists and researchers to Carloforte from September 28th to October 10th, 2025 , to reflect on the role of women in contemporary Sardinia, is underway.

Sponsored by the Carbonia CSC of the Società Umanitaria, implemented by U-Boot Lab with the patronage of the Municipality of Carloforte and in collaboration with Ottovolante Sulcis, the project opens its call for applications on Thursday, July 24th. It is aimed at interdisciplinary collectives (existing or to be formed) interested in participating in a residency that combines artistic and scientific practices, to explore the connections between gender, territory, environment, and social justice.

The deadline for submitting applications is Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Giudicesse2030 draws inspiration from the figures of ancient Sardinian female rulers to explore, in a contemporary key, female self-determination and gender inequality through new languages.

This year, the focus shifts to the connection between community and coastal landscape, in dialogue with Tunèa, a territorial regeneration project centered around the memory of the Carloforte tuna fishery.

Between fishing nets and invisible stories of women's work, the residency aims to "rebalance the gaze" and imagine, through art, a more equitable, sustainable and aware future .

The project will focus on the creation of an original, accessible, replicable audiovisual work designed for a variety of exhibition contexts.

The selected collective will receive a compensation of 6,000 euros and will be accompanied on a journey that will culminate in an accessible final public event (with LIS translation and real-time subtitling).

The call involves two selection phases: an initial screening will identify three finalist collectives, who will participate in an online interview on September 4th and 5th. The winning collective will be announced by September 8th.

All the details and the application form are available on the official website of the Società Umanitaria – CSC Carbonia.
