A humanoid robot developed by Chinese smartphone maker Honor has run the 100 meters in 9.32 seconds, breaking the human world record held by Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt . China's state broadcaster reported the news. International media outlets have reported the news.
The robot, nicknamed Lightning, reached a top speed of 14.5 meters per second during a test event for the second Humanoid Robotics World Games, which opened in Beijing today. The performance surpassed the men's 100-meter world record of 9.58 seconds set by Bolt at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin.
In April , Lightning also won the 21km Beijing Half Marathon in 50 minutes and 26 seconds, faster than the men's world record . The robot was 169cm tall and had 95cm legs during the half marathon.
The researchers then lengthened its legs by 10 centimeters, bringing them to 1.05 meters, ahead of the Humanoid Robot World Games, as reported by China Central Television.
