Run down by a car, former Danish cyclist Chris Anker Sorensen died in Belgium. This was announced by the International Cycling Union which also sends its condolences to the sportsman's family on Twitter.

Sorensen, notably winner of a stage of the Giro in 2010, was on his bicycle trip to Zeebrugge when he was involved in an accident on the sidelines of the 2021 World Cup. He was 37 years old and wore mainly the jerseys of the CSC, Saxo Bank and Tinkoff. In addition to the eighth stage of the Giro d'Italia in 2010, he also won the sixth stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné in 2008 and the title of Danish road champion in 2015, his latest great success.
