«We finally did it, bye dad!».
Mauro Riva, one of Gigi Riva's two sons, posts a photo on Facebook that immortalizes his father's tombstone, just completed, at the Monumental Cemetery of Bonaria , where Rombo di Tuono, who died on January 22nd, rests.
«Sardinia – is the moving engraved writing – has given me affection and continues to give it to me, the people are close to me as if I were still going to the field and this for me is something that is priceless !». A declaration of love to the region that adopted him when he was just 18 years old.
The image chosen is the one with the Cagliari shirt with the scudetto: folded hands, proud and serene look. Next to the photo is another phrase: "Living in the hearts of those we leave behind is not dying." Below place and date of birth (Leggiuno, 7-11-1944) and death (Cagliari, 22-1-2024).
After the solemn funeral celebrated in the Cagliari basilica of Bonaria, hundreds of fans paid homage to the remains of the rossoblù champion , who passed away at the age of 79, leaving an unbridgeable void on the island and in the world of sport.
