The former senator of Italia Viva Giuseppe Luigi Cucca – designated by resolution of the Giunta on Monday 20 February – has in fact decided not to accept. The reasons are linked to the controversies that arose after the decree of Christian Solinas and which concerned technical aspects and opportunities linked to the assignment of the assignment .

Reasons explained in a press release by Solinas and Cucca themselves: «In the face of the laughable and silly controversies following the appointment of Giuseppe Luigi Cucca as Secretary General of the Region, as well as the reckless allusions made by some, mutually agreed between us and animated as from the beginning from the sole and exclusive interest in contributing to the better fate of Sardinia and the Sardinians, we have decided to clear the field of any absurd exploitation, taking a step aside from this prestigious role ».

"I feel I have to thank the President of the Region and the entire Council for the trust they had placed in me - Cucca declared - also in consideration of the fact that this appointment constituted an important change in the usual action of the parties, identifying a person who had all the qualifications to fill that position, already certified by the Anac, in spite of those who, ignorant of the rules, had claimed the opposite». Furthermore, « this appointment would have constituted a turning point in the usual methods, turning the attention towards competence and experience . It is worth remembering that the figure of the Secretary General is strictly administrative, called to carry out 'high administration', a concept probably unknown to many, free from purely political implications".

Solinas specified that "the choice of Giuseppe Luigi Cucca, to whom I am bound beyond the different political paths by a relationship of old, cordial and mutually disinterested esteem and friendship, had already matured for several months".

The president of the Region and the former senator conclude the note thus: "We are both men of the institutions, with a high respect for them and therefore we felt that in no way the latest news stories should lend themselves to sinister and unfounded connections with the appointment . As our personal and political history tells us, we will continue to commit ourselves to the supreme interest of our beloved Island, with extreme loyalty and serenity without ever interposing personal interests".
