After the surge in the price of gas, driven by the announcement of the three-day stop to deliveries from Russia, the energy issue returns to dominate the electoral campaign. And the leaders of the various parties, on the stage offered by the Rimini Meeting, illustrate their respective proposals to deal with the emergency.

Giorgia Meloni opens to the price cap but only if European, Luigi Di Maio urges us to be quick and win the battle in the EU without waiting for the next government. While Enrico Letta pushes the idea of administered prices for 12 months (a measure that Italy could take even without Brussels), Matteo Salvini and Antonio Tajani agree on the energy price ceiling, but relaunch on nuclear power.

Opening the debate, during the confrontation between the political leaders at the Rimini event, is the Foreign Minister. For the leader of Civic Engagement , the battle over the price of gas must be won immediately , "between September and October", without waiting for the next executive to return to negotiations. Also because "today the price is 300 euros per megawatt hour, before the crisis it was 40. This means that we are speculating".

Letta focuses on an Italian solution to the increases: " Administered energy prices for 12 months . It is necessary to make a law - warns Letta -, otherwise the system will fail". On the opposite side, that is, the go-ahead for the price cap but within the EU, says the president of FdI: "I am very much in favor of the price cap for gas at the European level - opens Meloni -, but be careful to impose it at the Italian level. they manage energy in our country are not public, unless it is decided to nationalize them and we can talk about this ". "We are in the EU and we have a duty to fight there to protect the Italians", echoes Tajani. On a similar line, the president of Italia viva, Ettore Rosato: "All parties express themselves strongly to go to Europe to say that it is a decisive element for the survival of our companies and the economic structure of the country".

The leader of the League, Salvini, does not hesitate to define "fundamental" to put a limit on energy costs, but immediately after relaunching on nuclear power : "If Italy wants to be independent from an energy point of view, it cannot be the only big one country to say no to clean power plants ".

There are more divisions on the Citizenship Income front, according to Letta "it must be significantly changed based on experience", but in any case "we need a measure against poverty ". For Di Maio it must remain even if "most of the employment centers have failed".

The position of the center-right is obviously different. According to Meloni, it is " wrong to put those who can work and those who cannot do it on the same level ", while Salvini observes that if "70% of those who started taking citizenship income from 2019 are still taking it, it is clear that something is wrong. it worked". The income, says the League, should be given only to those who cannot work. Tajani remarks: " If you have work you are free, if you have citizenship income you are not free ".

COUNT EXCLUDED

The debate was attended by Salvini, Meloni, Tajani, Letta, Di Maio, Rosato for the Third Pole, Lupi for Us Moderati. Writing: "Today at the Rimini Meeting the voice of the 5 Star Movement was not hosted. Instead there was a parade of politicians who pretend to quarrel in public and then always find an agreement around a table. , different from them. We are uncomfortable for a certain system that wants to exclude and obscure us ".

On that photo Enrico Letta replied: "We were agreeing the rules of the debate".
