A flower in the desert, watered with care, and today become a tree with a lush crown. Margherita Serra , 36 years old from Ittiri and Giuliano Satta, 38 years old from Porto Torres have achieved this feat. In the company “Emmegi”, there are not only their initials, but their history, a welding enterprise that mainly satisfies the railway sector, a large structure inaugurated in the middle of the industrial area of Porto Torres, a success in a production area marked by a deep crisis.

Their bet began in 2007, when they were very young and decided to work in the family business in Calenzano, Tuscany. A year later, just over the age of majority, they needed to start the business on their own , in a small 70 square meter garage. Another challenge had just begun . "So I decided to drop out of college to follow my boyfriend," says Margherita. "The commitment was considerable, just two people, without any employees, engaged in welding, dealing with invoices, contracts, orders and arranging the rent for the premises. We did welding for any branch of the company. The railway sector was our strong point, but we also specialized in the paper and naval sectors."

In 2013, the time had come to return to work on the Island with a good client portfolio and quality management certifications that have distinguished the company . "We understood that we could continue our business in Sardinia, while continuing to work on orders throughout Italy." Margherita and Giuliano found space in the Business Incubator of the Provincial Industrial Consortium, in the production area of Porto Torres . A small place with two employees that over time became four. The next step was in the warehouse in the industrial area, in via Pigafetta, then the ambitious leap. The small company transformed into a real metalworking industry where components were made mainly for the railway sector with cutting-edge numerically controlled machinery of advanced technology.

Yesterday, Saturday 23 August, the inauguration of a building, purchased at auction and transformed into a factory with three floors of building, a production area of 3,200 square meters and 4,200 meters of yard. The presence of the port facilitates the transfer of the finished product, to serve customers in Lombardy, Liguria and Tuscany, in addition to the large Japanese multinational Hitachi. An investment of over 2 million euros for the new structure that employs thirty people.

"Today we move forward with our local workforce that also gives space to women", adds Giuliano - in fact in the welding department we employ female workers, even though metalworking is almost always associated with the male figure".

The opening of the new facility was a celebration of colors, where music, performances by dancers, and a buffet were magically organized by Imprenta di Giuseppe Pinna.
