A gem from Maldini's free kick sends Monza and Cagliari to the locker rooms with the Brianza team ahead 1-0.
Ranieri continues with Cagliari who has built a string of four useful results, replacing the injured Mina and Gaetano, respectively, with Wieteska and Shomurodov. In Monza there is Carboni from Torino, deployed as fourth on the left in defence.
In the first half hour, the only emotions come from the many rossoblù fans, not just the 2,400 present in the away section. In the 31st minute Shomurodov earns a free kick from the edge of the box, but Lapadula's shot just grazes the post.
Cagliari seems in control, but in the 42nd minute they give away a free kick 25 meters out on a ball that has now been lost: a perfect strike from Maldini, with the ball hitting under the crossbar and going over the goal line. Monza ahead and rossoblù having to chase. At the end of the half, Dany Mota's header from close range and the ball goes wide.
