Farewell to Lina Wertmüller, Academy Award-winning director for Lifetime Achievement in 2020, who died in her Roman home at the age of 93.
Born in 1928 in Rome (born Arcangela Felice Assunta Wertmüller von Elgg Spanol von Braueich), she is considered one of the absolute masters of world cinema.
Among her best-known and unforgettable films, many of which starred Giancarlo Giannini and Mariangela Melato, her favorite actors and great friends, "Pasqualino Settebellezze" (for which she was the first female director nominated for an Oscar, in 1977), "Metallurgical Mimì wounded in honor", "Overwhelmed by an unusual fate in the blue sea of August", "Film of love and anarchy", "Summer night with a Greek profile", "I hope that me la cable ”,“ Metalworker and hairdresser in a whirlwind of sex and politics ”, just to name a few.
An innovative, determined, strong-willed artist who has never failed to make her films "political", telling the world of the proletariat, the bourgeoisie and also the wealthy classes of Italian society in all their facets, miseries, neuroses and contradictions , with sarcasm, malice and a critical eye.
"I have always had a strong character, since I was a child, I was even thrown out of eleven schools and on the set I have always commanded", she said of herself.
A great lover of Sardinia ("Overwhelmed by an unusual destiny", one of her masterpieces, was filmed in the Gulf of Orosei) in 2020, the year in which she received the Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement, she was engaged in a new battle right on the island: a crusade alongside Legambiente against the concession for an oyster and mussel farm in front of the beach of Baracconi, in Golfo Aranci.
