Jimmy Greaves, former England striker and top scorer in Tottenham history, has died at the age of 81.

He had started his career with Chelsea before moving to Milan (in the 1961-62 season), Spurs and West Ham.

He scored 44 goals in 57 games for the England national team and was on the team that won the 1966 World Cup.

He holds the record for the highest number of Premier League goals with 357 goals, 266 of which in 379 games played for Tottenham.

Greaves' 41 hits in 1960-61 remain a one-season record for Chelsea, and he also holds the Spurs record with 37 in 1962-'63.

In a note published on social media, Tottenham recalled him with these words: "We are extremely saddened to learn of the death of the great Jimmy Greaves, not only the best scorer of Tottenham Hotspur, but the best scorer this country has ever known".
