The continuity of Eurallumina guaranteed for at least the first six months of 2026 with 9.6 million euros .

This was announced by the Ministers of Enterprise and Labor, Adolfo Urso and Marina Calderone , at the meeting convened at the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy on the future of the company.

"We supported the need to ensure Euroallumina's production continuity, given the company's desire to resume operations once the assets are released. We can confirm that the Financial Security Committee (the body responsible, among other things, for the implementation of international sanctions) shared this position ," the government officials stated.

According to reports, the State Property Agency has already formalized its request for funds to the Ministry of the Economy and Finance, which has expressed a "positive" attitude, opening the way to the recognition of the resources in the budget law .

Urso and Calderone, at the start of the meeting at Mimit, explained that they had held "several discussions in recent weeks, including informal ones, with Euroallumina, the State Property Agency, and the trade unions to identify a way out of the current situation."

Good news, then, for the Sardinian workers who came to Rome to demonstrate, banging their orange helmets on the asphalt of Via Veneto and chanting "Work! Work!" in front of the entrance to the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy.

The company was in fact at risk of liquidation on December 31 , following the freezing of the assets of the Russian ownership of Rusal.

The result achieved today was "by no means a foregone conclusion," Minister Urso explained, recalling that since 2023—the year the dispute began following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the asset freeze—12 discussions have been convened at the ministry.

"We scheduled the meeting for today, aware that the objective was complex and challenging and that it was first necessary to have all the elements in place to ensure business continuity, something we can finally ensure," the minister added.

RWM

Urso then moved on to other local disputes, asking Todde to approve the RWM expansion plan : "Today's decision is an important step forward, allowing us to work in the coming months to find a definitive and structural solution. I hope it will also bode well for other ongoing issues in the area. I confidently await the Region's decision on RWM ."

THE COUNCILLOR

"The Government has chosen to recognize that this production is strategic for the country, and not just for Sardinia," commented the regional councilor for Industry Emanuele Cani , who participated in the discussion at Mimit.

"Today's move," Todde, a member of the municipal administration, emphasized, "is an important but not conclusive step, and therefore we will still have work to do in the coming months to achieve a definitive result. However, both the signing of the Prime Ministerial Decree, which will allow the arrival of natural gas on the island, and the government's willingness to support the continuity of management of the industrial complex during the transition phase, are elements that give us hope for the release of the assets and the possibility that the project can continue to develop."

Cani then reiterated the issue of energy costs : "As the Sardinia Region, we can do very little in this regard, and we therefore trust in regulatory intervention from the government that can not only help relaunch Eurallumina but also resolve other industrial crises. Otherwise , companies based in our region will never be competitive on the market, a chronic problem that certainly cannot be blamed solely on this government. The time has come to address it structurally as a whole, and not just in isolated cases related to individual disputes."

«A SWAB»

Cagliari MP Francesca Ghirra, AVS member of parliament, criticizes: " Only a stopgap solution has been proposed: business continuity will be guaranteed for six months, thanks to the government's €9.6 million allocation. However, our country must take action to unlock Rusal's assets and ensure the factory's production continuity, as has happened in Sweden, Ireland, Germany, and even the United States ."
