At 12:00 PM (with only Suni missing), voter turnout in the 148 Sardinian municipalities called to vote stood at 17.12% . The previous election, at the same time, had seen 16.27%.
Below are the percentages broken down by province.
Data from the main centers: Quartu 12.83%, Sanluri 18.58%, Sestu 12.88%, Porto Torres 16.55%, Tempio 19.73%.
Polls will be open today until 11:00 PM and tomorrow from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The most anticipated race will be in Quartu, but Sestu, Sanluri, Tempio, and Porto Torres will also be in the spotlight. In towns with more than 15,000 inhabitants , a runoff election will take place on June 21st and 22nd if no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote.
The territorial distribution of the municipalities voting confirms the weight of the inland areas: 37 municipalities in the Oristano area, 27 in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, 27 in the Sassari area, 20 in the Nuoro area, 13 in Gallura, 11 in the Medio Campidano area, 7 in Ogliastra, and 6 in the Sulcis Iglesiente area.
One of the most critical issues of this round concerns the small municipalities where only one list was submitted, out of 62 in total. Here, the mayoral candidate is challenging abstentionism: the election is valid if at least 40% of registered voters participate and the list receives at least 50% of the valid votes. Failure to reach these thresholds will result in a special administration.
