The first prize of the ninth edition of “Is Rea”, the documentary film festival that just ended in Nuoro, went to Marching in the Dark by Kinshuk Sujan. The jury wanted to reward «the visual and sound narration that explores the psychological evolution of the protagonist, highlighting female resistance within a system of injustice».
Second Prize went to Tierra Encima by Sebastián Duque, a short film that tells the harshness of an individual conflict, aggravated by social injustices. The Award for Best Ethnomusicological Themed Film was won by Il Canto del Respiro by Simona Canonica, for its «exploration of music as an expression of cultural identities and the connection with the environment». Finally, the Youth Jury Award was assigned to Las Novias del Sur by Elena López, for its original and delicate representation of love and human frailties, overcoming generational boundaries with irony and depth.
The Festival is organized by the Istituto Superiore Regionale Etnografico (ISRE) with the artistic direction of Alessandro Stellino. Thirty films were proposed in this edition which recorded an extraordinary success with the public , confirming the leading role of the festival in the international panorama of documentary cinema.
