That awful mess in Italian basketball. The chaos sparked by the Trapani case (unpaid bills and an 8-point penalty) leaves the standings for the Final 8 uncertain. With one matchday remaining in the first half of the season, five teams are guaranteed to participate in the Coppa Italia: Bologna, Brescia, Tortona, Milano, and Venezia. The seven teams tied on 12 points are in the running for the last three spots, including Dinamo, plus Udine, who are currently on 10 points.
There are so many possible combinations, but it all depends on what happens this week against Trapani. The match against Virtus Bologna was cancelled, while the last first leg of the season sees the Sicilians host Trento, one of the teams with 12 points.
If Trapani withdraws or is excluded from Serie A, all results will be invalidated. The losers are Sassari and Varese, who won and would be deducted two points. The other teams lost, so their standings remain intact.
Even if Trapani is excluded, if Banco di Sardegna wins in Reggio Emilia it still has a chance, but it must be remembered that it has lost the direct clashes with Varese, Cremona and Napoli.
