For Davide Mascia, originally from Esterzili, international recognition has arrived. The twenty-two year old Sardinian talent won the twenty-first edition of the "Altamira Gorizia Guitar Competition", one of the main events in Italy for classical guitar, in the category without age limits, i.e. the highest one. A significant success, in an event that for many of the previous winners served as a trailblazer for the start of a career as an internationally renowned concert performer. «It was absolutely unexpected», declares Mascia, who in the last act overtook four other participants, one from Italy, one from China, one from Poland and one from Ukraine. «I hoped to reach the final, that would have already been an objective achieved. I played my cards well in the preliminary round performance, then on Sunday evening I went on stage in my best form and performed at my best."

The triumph

Mascia comes from Esterzili, has lived for most of her life in Elmas and has been studying in Rome for three years. In Gorizia, in two days at the Mauro Giuliani Guitar Center, he got the better of over thirty participants, passing the first phase and then prevailing in the final. Furthermore, he also won the public award, in addition to that of a jury made up of Italian and foreign classical guitar personalities. «I started playing since I was little», says Mascia. «This passion has become a profession and step by step I am trying to build it so I can make a living from music. This competition is a great help to grow further, in the short term I hope to be able to enter a school, with the ambition of working in a Conservatory." For him, from the Gorizia competition, a cash prize plus four concerts, two juries in as many competitions, an Altamira guitar and the publication of a small album on digital platforms.
