From the Sartigliedda of 1991 with Antonio Casu's Giara Club to the Italian record achieved fifteen years later, coinciding with his 50th birthday.
A true Oristano native, Dario Vargiu has become the most successful Italian jockey of all time. He has racked up 4,093 victories, surpassing the legendary Enrico Camici, who stood at 4,089. And just to underscore Sardinia's dominance, the third-most victorious jockey remains Gianfranco Dettori from Serramanna.
Dario Vargiu was actually already a legend before that; it's enough to say that he won the golden whip 10 times, the award that rewards the person who achieves the most victories in a year on Italian racetracks.
The passion for horses in his DNA, as well as the tenacity and character that allow him to still emerge after 32 years of galloping not only on Italian tracks, but also in Japan, Qatar, and Australia.
