"We asked the rapporteurs" to withdraw the amendment that provides for a salary increase for non-parliamentary ministers and undersecretaries to "avoid unnecessary controversy. What would not be understandable for any other profession, that is, that two people who do the same job, in the same organization, have different treatment, for those in politics must be taken into account".

Thus said the Minister of Defense, and a leading representative of FdI9, Guido Crosetto, after the controversy over the hypothesis of including in the Budget Law a pay increase for non-elected ministers and undersecretaries, to be brought into line with that received by members of the Government who were candidates in the last elections.

The opposition immediately reacted: "We agree with Crosetto: every extra minute on this amendment is wasted. You make me laugh: in Italy, most contracts are stuck, not one more minute on this nonsense." This was said by the Avs group leader in the Budget Committee of the Chamber, Marco Grimaldi. The Democratic group leader Ubaldo Pagano and Daniela Torto of the M5s also shared the same line.
