After the great success of the first evening, the Concerts d'Estiu return to Alghero, the series of travelling concerts dedicated to traditional popular music, organised by the Coro Polifonico Algherese as part of the twenty-ninth edition of Estudi Polifònic, under the artistic direction of maestro Ugo Spanu.
The next event is scheduled for Sunday, August 10th, at 9:00 PM, with an event that will combine music, tradition, and inspiration in a musical journey through some of the most characteristic streets of the old city. Three choirs will bring to life a unique musical procession, starting from Piazza Ginnasio, crossing Via Carlo Alberto, and finally arriving in Piazza Duomo, where the final performance will take place inside the Cathedral of Santa Maria at 10:00 PM.
Together with the Algherese Polyphonic Choir, which will perform a repertoire of Catalan and Alghero folk songs, two highly regarded guest choirs will be the stars of the evening: the “Monteferru” male choir from Seneghe , directed by maestro Nicola Piredda, and the “Omines Agrestes” choir from Lula , directed by maestro Tonino Carai.
The "Monteferru" Choir was founded in 2010 by Maestro Antonio Lotta and a group of singers sharing a passion for traditional singing. The 26-member ensemble performs a sacred and secular repertoire entirely rooted in Sardinian oral tradition, including many self-produced original pieces.
The "Omines Agrestes" Choir was founded in 2003 in Lula thanks to the initiative of Maestro Gianni Cossu, tenor of the Monte-Carlo Opera Choir. The 16 choristers are deeply connected to the cultural and religious life of the town and perform a repertoire rooted in folk music tradition. The choir's name is inspired by a karst cave located in the Mont'Albo massif .
Estudi Polifònic is supported by the strategic program of the Sassari Chamber of Commerce "Salude & Trigu", with the contribution of the Fondazione di Sardegna, the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, the Alghero Foundation and with the patronage of the Municipality of Alghero.
