"A macroscopic injustice". In this way Tore Piana, president of the Agricultural Studies Center, defines what is included in the resolution of the Regional Council of 24 March last which provides for compensation to the pig agricultural sector of Sardinia due to the consequences of the coronavirus and the increase in feed costs.

The provision establishes "an amount of 150 euros per head for a maximum of 250 head, with the exclusion of all farms that have less than 10 breeding heads (sows), this means, according to the calculations of the CSA - explains Piana -, to exclude 52% of the pigs in Sardinia from the aid, that is 34,451 heads. The data are those taken from the National Data Bank, which for Sardinia foresees, as of December 31st, a number of 12,998 farms that raise pigs and in these farms, regularly registered and surveyed, there are 66,451 breeding heads (sows and gilts ) ".

“If we take as a reference the number of excluded farms - he continues -, the percentage reaches 83%, because of the 12,998 farms only about 17% have more than 10 breeding heads (sows) on the farm. With these numbers it is clear that the content of the resolution contains a blatant injustice that absolutely cannot be accepted by the Sardinian agricultural sector ".

An error, for the Agricultural Studies Center, "caused by an oversight", but which can "be corrected urgently" with the withdrawal of the document and the "necessary corrections, inserting all the animals present in Sardinian farms, perhaps excluding the first 4 animals, today classified as family use, on the other hand a previous resolution establishes it and the same authorization presented, with the DUAP, provides for 4 female breeding animals, which are classified as family use ". And, again, "we ask for a derogation so that these indemnities are paid without requiring contribution regularity".
