Coming out in the world of football, Jankto: "I'm gay, I don't want to hide"

" I'm homosexual and I don't want to hide anymore ."
Thus the Czech midfielder Jakub Jankto , now at Sparta Prague and former - among others - of Ascoli, Udinese and Sampdoria, came out with a post published on his Instagram profile . “Like everyone else, I have my strengths and weaknesses. I have family, my friends. I have a job that I have been doing best for years, with seriousness, professionalism and passion. Like everyone else, I also want to live my life in freedom. Without fears. Without prejudice. Without violence. BUT with love », he wrote to his followers.
The announcement is not the first in the history of football but it is the one which, thanks to Jankto's high-level career – which boasts 45 appearances for the Czech Republic – is destined to have an extraordinary media impact . For this reason, there are already those who speak of a " historic day ", which challenges homophobia on and off the pitch .
The 27-year-old took part in Euro 2020 in his national team shirt. He arrived in Italy in 2015 to play for Udinese, then loaned to Ascoli for Serie B. His debut in Serie A in the 2016-2017 season in Udine, then Sampdoria before leaving Italy for the Spain. In total he played 155 matches in Serie A , scoring 17 goals .
