«I would like to remind Alessandra Todde that the role of a regional president is not to be a cheerleader for one's political friends, but to represent and support all the municipalities in the regional territory, without distinction of colors or flags».

Ugo Cappellacci, who has a past as governor and is now a Forza Italia deputy, is not tender towards the woman who now sits in his place at Villa Devoto and yesterday attended the meeting of the municipal council of Massimo Zedda's installation in Cagliari.

Le dichiarazioni di Todde all'insediameto di Massimo Zedda

«His recent statements» in which he makes it known «that he has decided to support Cagliari by virtue of his political closeness with the mayor, leave us perplexed. A calculation error or simply a case of institutional illiteracy?" asks Cappellacci.

The «fundamental principle of impartiality», continues the blue MP, «is the glue for the proper functioning of our democratic institutions and the trust that citizens should be able to place in them. Handing out slaps, as your councilors did, to mayors who are not perfectly aligned, and caresses to coalition partners is not only unfair, but risks making us look like a region of amateurs in the lurch."

The Democratic Party senator, Marco Meloni, comes to Todde's defense: «A truly ridiculous controversy. I would like to point out to Cappellacci that, alongside President Todde, there were present, in addition to some parliamentarians, the representative of the government, the prefect of Cagliari, the rector of the University, the president of the Port Authority and numerous other authorities, who - not being able to be present although invited - sent messages of good wishes such as the Archbishop of Cagliari Monsignor Baturi and the former mayor Floris".

According to Meloni «Cappellacci would have made a much better impression by keeping quiet. Even better, as the city's representative in Parliament, he could have apologized for his absence and in any case thank President Todde for the honor reserved for the City Council and therefore for the whole city in participating in such an important moment for democracy and for future of Cagliari and Sardinia".
