Melancholy, sadness, worry, hope. A storm of feelings for the last day of opening of San Benedetto. From today at 3 pm the municipal market will close to allow for the redevelopment work. Boxers and customers for two years - as announced from Palazzo Bacaredda - will have to refer to the temporary structure in Piazza Nazzari, which someone has already renamed the opera market because it was built in the open-air arena of the opera house. Resisting will be tough: 24 months (to be optimistic, given the duration of the public construction sites in the capital) is a long time .

Among traders and customers, there will be those who will retire, those who will change jobs or those who will give up spending the mornings in that storm of smells, noises and colors that was the San Benedetto market, thus breaking that chain called memory. Because, nostalgic or not, the next market will not be like today's, like this since June 1, 1957 .

Yesterday, the market corridors had a calm before the storm atmosphere: half-empty stalls and few people in the mood to shop.
