The city of Cagliari reaches the final for the European “Green Capital” award 2024, together with Valencia.

The announcement from the European Commission came today.

The names chosen are the realities that are recognized for their efforts to improve the environment and stimulate further ecological transformation activities.

The finalists for the title "Green Leaf", dedicated to smaller cities, are Elsinore (in Denmark), Velenje (Slovenia) and Bistrița (Romania).

"Cities are at the heart of our fight against climate, pollution and biodiversity crises," which show "the way and guide efforts to deliver the systemic and long-term changes required by the European Green Deal," said Virginijus. Sinkevičius, EU Commissioner for the Environment.

The winners will be announced on October 27th at the awards ceremony in this year's green capital, France's Grenoble.
