Founded six years ago on the initiative of the fans of the association Memoria Storica Torresina, it is truly a Popular Library of Sports because it is located in via Turritana, very close to the Duomo, is open to all and offers free access to 1,200 books on all or almost all sports disciplines, including manuals, almanacs, novels and biographies.
Open 15 hours a week thanks to volunteers, the Biblioteca Popolare dello Sport also has a fruitful collaboration with the schools of San Donato, which between Primary and Middle participate with 8 classes in the reading workshops, but from the next school year there will be many more because some classes from other school complexes have also asked to take part in the initiative.
Not only that, in the premises at via Turritana 78 you can borrow a soccer ball or a basketball (with a basket) to play in Piazza Duomo. "We also receive sportswear as gifts from clubs and private individuals - explains Andrea Sini, one of the members - and anyone who needs a pair of shoes, a jacket or a pair of shorts can pick them up for free. Last year alone we distributed a thousand items".
The Biblioteca Popolare dello Sport also organizes literary reviews. The one that starts tonight at 7 pm in the courtyard of the San Donato school is called "Colpi di testa". The journalist Giuseppe Pastore will present the book "Il Milan col sole in tasca-Gli anni 1986-1994". On September 26th, meeting with the journalist Michele Padovano, on the 30th with Gianfelice Facchetti, actor and director son of the unforgettable Giacinto. Closing on October 10th with Giancarlo Alessandrelli, the historic assistant of the goalkeeper Dino Zoff.
