The reunification "of the fatherland will take place and will certainly be achieved" . This was reiterated by Chinese President Xi Jinping , in the opening speech of the XX Congress of the CCP , with which the leader of the People's Republic is about to enter his third term. Xi himself added that China "will never promise to renounce the use of force for reunification".
Taiwan immediately replied to Xi's speech, through the spokesman of the Taipei Presidential Office, Chang Tun-han , who assured that no compromise hypothesis will be possible on sovereignty and democracy , while military confrontation cannot be a viable option. .
The spokesman also said that according to the people of Taiwan "territorial sovereignty, democracy and freedom cannot be compromised".
