The drama that is shaking Ukraine, invaded and bombed by Russian troops, has already caused the flight of millions of people from the country under attack. And thousands of pets have been rescued with civilian refugees to escape cities besieged or targeted by Moscow missiles.
In Italy alone, 34,851 refugees have arrived since the beginning of the conflict: 17,685 women, 3,040 men and 14,126 minors, most of whom entered from the Friulian border.
According to reports from the Italian Association for the Defense of Animals and the Environment, together with them about 600 dogs and 150 cats arrived in our country. But the Italian kennels have also welcomed dozens of ownerless dogs, rescued from the theater of war.
An emergency within an emergency. For this reason, Aidaa itself, with a letter sent to the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza, requests that these families with animals accompanying public veterinarians be made available to check on the state of health of the animals and to verify that they have been subjected to mandatory vaccinations, free of charge. "According to analysts' forecasts, at least half a million refugees should arrive in Italy before the end of the war - concludes the note of the association - with about 3000 animals accompanying them to whom assistance must be guaranteed".
