Alessandro Caputo and Stefano Farronato, the two Italian mountaineers missing in Nepal, have died: "Their deaths were confirmed this morning by local authorities," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote in a statement. " They had been lost contact since Friday, October 31, while they were climbing Panbari Peak," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote. "Their compatriots were caught in heavy snowfall at Camp 1 (5,000 m). Other compatriots are missing, and the search is ongoing."
At least five or six Italians are still missing, while the death of a third compatriot at the Yalung Ri base camp, 200 kilometers from Panbari, anticipated yesterday by some Nepalese media, has not yet been officially confirmed.
"The Consulate General in Calcutta, also through the Honorary Consulate General in Kathmandu, and in close coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs further states, "is directly following the evolution of the situation in contact with local authorities and the families of the compatriots."
