US President Donald Trump, during his visit to Beijing, said he had reached “fantastic trade deals” with Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China.

Trump's overtures to Xi Jinping, whom he described as a "great leader" and a "friend," initially elicited little response. "We've had some fantastic trade deals, great for both countries," Trump reiterated, as Xi escorted him through Zhongnanhai Gardens.

A few hours later, his Chinese counterpart also spoke out: "We have reached important common understandings on maintaining stable economic and trade ties, expanding practical cooperation in various fields, and appropriately addressing mutual concerns," the Chinese president said.

For Xi, the visit was historic and of great significance, and he stated that a new vision had been established for building a constructive relationship based on strategic stability. They also agreed to strengthen communication and coordination on international and regional issues.
