Is the US close to attacking Venezuela?
Donald Trump wrote on his social media account that the airspace above and around the Latin American country is "closed" .
"To all airlines, pilots, drug dealers, and human traffickers, please consider that the airspace over and around Venezuela will be entirely closed," the US president's message.
Trump said shortly afterward, meeting with reporters, that ground raids "against drug traffickers will begin very soon."
Since August, however, sea attacks have continued, resulting in dozens of casualties in recent months. And on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, Trump hinted that a land attack was imminent. Praising the armed forces, he said: "You are the backbone of American air power, and in recent weeks you have worked to deter Venezuelan drug traffickers. Now they no longer want to deliver the goods by sea, and we will begin stopping them by land as well ."
