Assault against two Iranian women "guilty" of not wearing the veil.

The two victims were inside a grocery store in Shandiz, in the north east of the country, when they were approached by a man who suddenly grabbed a pack of yogurt from a shelf and emptied it over their heads .

In the video, filmed by the shop's CCTV cameras and which has gone viral, the shop owner and another customer can be seen intervening in defense of the two women, chasing away the assailant.

The man, writes the Miran news agency, was arrested for disturbing public order , but the Iranian judiciary has also ordered the arrest of the victims: they are accused of showing their hair in public, an act considered illegal in the country.

The Miran Agency reports that "necessary notices" have been issued to the store owner to ensure compliance with the law.

The arrests follow months of protests calling for an end to the compulsory wearing of the hijab after the death of Mahsa Amini, the 22-year-old arrested by Tehran's morality police because, according to the authorities, she wore the headscarf "improperly", and died in custody.
