The United States has launched new strikes against Iran, Central Command announced.

Sounds of explosions were reported late this evening in Bandar Abbas and Sirik, towns in southern Iran located near the Strait of Hormuz , the Fars news agency reported. Other explosions, the same source added, were heard "coming from the sea, in the western coastal area of Sirik."

For its part, the Mehr agency reports explosions in Bandar

Abbas, Konarak and Chabahar, adding that "air defense is

was activated to counter hostile targets" in Bandar Abbas.

"I'm not sure I want to make a deal with Iran," Donald Trump said in the last few hours at a press conference after the NATO summit in Ankara, calling Iranian leaders "crazy, out of their minds."

"At the direction of the Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Central Command has initiated additional strikes against Iran, aimed at further reducing the country's ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," U.S. Central Command explained in a statement. "The United States holds Iran responsible for recent and unjustified attacks on commercial vessels and civilian crews navigating freely through a key international waterway," the Command statement emphasized.
