In Syria, a US drone killed an al Qaeda exponent. This was claimed by the Pentagon which speaks of a raid of which Abdul Hamid al-Matar, a senior leader, was the victim. And the action "will weigh on the ability of the terrorist organization to plan and conduct attacks that threaten American citizens, our partners or civilians," according to US Army Major John Rigsbee.

The operation was conducted in Suluk, a city north of Raqqa, with the use of an MQ-9 Reaper drone, but it is not clear whether there were also civilian deaths.

The raid, according to rumors, had been scheduled for days but would not be linked to the ambush suffered by US troops on Thursday in Tanf.
