Venezuelan Juan Vicente Perez Mora , certified in 2022 by Guinness World Records as the oldest man in the world , died last night at the age of 114 : President Nicolas Maduro announced it.
“Juan Vicente Perez Mora has transcended into eternity at 114 years old,” Maduro wrote on X.
Perez was officially confirmed as the oldest man alive on February 4, 2022 , when he was 112 years and 253 days old, according to Guinness. The father of 11 children, as of 2022 he had 41 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren .
A former farmer known as Tio Vicente, Perez was born in El Cobre, in the Andean state of Tachira, on May 27, 1909. «At the age of five, he began working with his father and his brothers in agriculture and collaborated in the sugar cane and coffee harvest,” reads a 2022 Guinness statement.
In his long life, he was also a sheriff and while still working in agriculture he was responsible for resolving land and family disputes.
