Two "live fire" artillery drills, with live shells, will be organized this week by Taiwan, intending to test its combat readiness in relation to increasing military threats from Beijing. This was announced by the armed forces of Taipei.

The military units involved include the Artillery Command, the Infantry Troops stationed in Pingtung, the Hualien Defense Command and the Island Coast Guard. In addition, 78 locally developed light mortars and six American-made howitzers will have been used for both air and sea shooting tests.

Operations are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday in Fenggang, southern Pingtung County.

Meanwhile, this morning 14 ships and 66 military fighters of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) were detected in the region around Taiwan up to 5 pm local time (11 am in Italy), according to the communication released by the Taipei Defense Ministry. .

Finally, a total of 22 identified aircraft flew over the eastern midline of the Taiwan Strait and the island's Southwest Air Identification Defense Zone (Adiz).
