Horror in Michigan , where nine people, including two children, were injured in a shooting in a public park .

The man who opened fire, a 42-year-old, was later found dead in a house not far away , as local authorities announced.

The 42-year-old was found in the house where he lived with his mother and after police traced the weapon to the scene of the shooting by linking it to an address about half a mile from the crime scene, the sheriff explained in a press conference last night .

According to an initial reconstruction, the man pulled his car over to the recreation area of the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills, then got out of the vehicle and opened fire about 6 meters away, reloading several times. He shot "potentially 28 times," the sheriff said. The incident appears to be random and authorities have not yet determined a motive for the attack, he added.

At least two of the 9 people shot were children , authorities said: an 8-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the head and is hospitalized in serious condition , while a 4-year-old boy was shot in the thigh and is in stable condition.

The 39-year-old mother, injured in the abdomen and leg, is also in serious condition.

The other six injured people, three women and three men aged between 30 and 78, are in stable condition.
