U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff will meet with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin this weekend, a crucial meeting as the White House pushes for a deal to end the war with Russia by the end of the year, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing official sources.

The decision to send Witkoff, who led talks with Ukraine and Russia on a US peace plan, underscores the acceleration of efforts to narrow differences between Kiev and Washington over the terms of the agreement. Witkoff will also meet with the leaders of France, Great Britain, and Germany on Sunday and Monday.

On Thursday, the White House said President Trump would send a representative to the meeting only if he felt there was sufficient progress to be made in the peace talks. Spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt noted that the president was "tired of meetings just for the sake of meeting."
