Two women in trouble for spreading fake news about Brigitte Macron on the internet and in particular insinuations that she is actually a transgender woman.
According to French media reports, their goal was to tarnish her husband Emmanuel Macron ahead of the presidential elections to be held in April.
The fake news started circulating last fall. The two women - who will have to appear in court on June 15 - have also constructed a false biography of the première dame, according to which the consort of the number one of the Elysée would be born a man and would be called Jean-Michel Trogneux at the registry office.
Liberation has calculated that almost 60 thousand messages have been spread on social networks with the hashtag #JeanMichelTrogneux, with the hoax that has found fertile ground for likes and shares on pages and profiles hostile to Macron, close to the extreme right or proponents of theories conspiracy, anti-Covid and anti-vaccines.
It is not the first time that the first lady of Paris has been the subject of attacks related to physical or age. And the same goes for the president: during the 2017 presidential campaign, for example, Macron was the subject of rumors about an alleged homosexual relationship with the then president of Radio France, Mathieu Gallet. Rumors that he himself dismissed with a joke: "It wasn't me, but my hologram."
