Russian President Vladimir Putin, who today entered Ukrainian territory on a visit to the conquered city of Mariupol, welcomed "China's willingness to play a constructive role" in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

The president of the Russian Federation also stressed that relations between Moscow and Beijing are "at the highest point" in their history.

His position was reported in an article written for a Chinese newspaper and published by the Kremlin on the eve of Chinese leader Xi Jinping's visit to Russia.
