"The Second World Army is an air bubble that burst after the invasion of Ukraine."
This was stated by Yevgeny Prigozhin , the founder of the Wagner Group , the paramilitary brigade hired by the Kremlin for military operations in Ukraine, during a video interview published on social media and reported by the adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, Anton Gerashenko .
Prigozhin, writes Gerashenko on his Telegram channel, claims that he had already started training his mercenaries at the end of February 2022, because the much touted "second army" of the world was suffering "shameful defeats".
This is the umpteenth attack by the number one of the mercenary group against the strategies adopted by Moscow during the invasion.
The former US president Barack Obama has also spoken of the Ukrainian crisis in these hours, defending the response that in 2014 the United States and Europe gave to Russia's annexation of Crimea, stating that the circumstances were different from to the invasion of Ukraine.
"The Ukraine of that period is not what it is today," the former president said last night in an interview with Christiane Amanpour on CNN.
"There's a reason why there wasn't an armed invasion of Crimea at the time: because it was filled with a lot of Russian-speaking people who sympathized with Russia," Obama stressed. "German Chancellor Angela Merkel and I responded to Putin with the tools we had ", said the former president, recalling that "many European countries did not want to impose sanctions against Moscow".
