Thirteen Italians and dozens of other tourists were injured in Peru in an accident involving a bus that went off the road while descending from the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu .

According to the reconstruction by the local police, the driver lost control and the vehicle fell off the mountain road that connects the historical site with the tourist city of Aguas Calientes, falling for about 15 meters .

“We have 30 injured tourists: they have all been taken to Cusco,” said a Peruvian police official.

The Italians involved were hospitalized for multiple bone fractures and three are said to be “more serious” but, according to sources from the Farnesina, none of them are in danger of life.
