North Korea "seems ready for a new nuclear test ": is the alarm raised by an official of the presidential office in Seoul, quoted by Yonhap.

If carried out, the test would be the seventh ever in the country and the first since 2017, when leader Kim Jong-un announced a voluntary moratorium on nuclear and missile testing.

Before the nuclear test, North Korea could launch ballistic missiles.

Seoul intends to draw up "very detailed action plans" on North Korea in view of the meeting between the new South Korean president, Yoon Suk-yeol, who took office on May 10, and the US president, Joe Biden, who will be visiting Korea of the South and Japan from 20 to 24 May.

For some time now, satellite images have shown activity at the site used in the past for nuclear tests and which, according to Pyongyang , was closed in 2018.
