A search is underway for two Italian climbers who disappeared in Nepal during an attempt to climb Mount Panbari (6,887 metres) in the Himalayas.

The two climbers, Stefano Farronato and Alessandro Caputo, have not been heard from since Saturday. According to reconstructions, they were stranded at Camp 1 due to heavy snowfall, said Himal Gautam, a spokesperson for the Himal department.

The expedition leader was rescued from base camp by helicopter on Sunday. Last week, Cyclone Montha, which formed in the Bay of Bengal, brought heavy rain and snow to Nepal, stranding many trekkers.
