Portrayed in "a hug and a smile that go beyond the disability caused by the war in Syria and its social and health consequences".

For this reason, the shot of the Turkish photographer Mehmet Aslan, who immortalized father and son without limbs due to the bombing, won the Siena International Photo Awards (Sipa) 2021.

The two protagonists of the photo, Munzir and Mustafa, who have become symbols of the Syrian drama that has been going on for over ten years, will arrive in Italy tomorrow evening to start a new life in Siena. They will be treated at the Vigorso di Budrio prosthesis center (Bologna).

The announcement comes from Sipa, which after having rewarded the shot, launched a fundraiser to help father and son and other innocent victims of the Syrian conflict.

The fundraiser, which also supports a rehabilitation and aid program for people who have undergone amputations, has reached over 100,000 euros.

"Munzir and Mustafa will arrive tomorrow evening in Italy, in Ciampino, from Turkey - explained the founder and artistic director of the photographic award Luca Venturi -, then they will go to live in a Caritas house in Siena made available by the Archdiocese and will be treated at the prosthesis center in Vigorso di Budrio ".

For Venturi “the communicative power of that photo has been transformed into a real support for the family thanks to the fundraising we launched, which many people have joined. As a photo contest we didn't consider ourselves the right subjects to do this, but in the end it was the right choice because this miracle was made possible ”.
