A child who was on board a boat of migrants rescued last night off the Canary Islands died: the emergency service of the archipelago and the Efe news agency announced it.

There were over 40 people on the boat, who were welcomed and rescued during the night by first aid services on the island of Gran Canaria.

The later deceased child was loaded onto a Spanish Maritime Rescue Service helicopter along with five other minors, including two infants, and two adults, as all were considered to be in worrying health conditions.

Once on the ground, the children were hospitalized in two hospitals.

According to the Efe, the boat was found adrift about 200 kilometers from Gran Canaria.
