Another reporter murdered in Mexico. It is the sixth since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP count on Reporters Sans Frontieres data.

The reporter was called Heber Lopez Vazquez and he was the head of the news site Noticias Web in the southern state of Oaxaca. The man was shot while he was in his car, according to judicial sources reported on the TV channel Milenio.

Two suspects were arrested as they attempted to escape and their weapons were also found. It is not yet clear who ordered the crime.

According to the Diario de Yucatán Lopez Vazquez, who had repeatedly denounced acts of corruption by local political officials, had been repeatedly threatened.

With 140 reporters murdered in thirty years, Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries of all for those who want to do this job. The victims since the beginning of the year have been the journalist Lourdes Maldonado, the photojournalist Margarito Martínez Esquivel and the journalists Marco Ernesto Isla, José Luis Gamboa and Roberto Toledo.
