Four children were killed in a fire that broke out late yesterday in a house in south London, according to the British capital's fire department chief Andy Roe.
The tragedy took place in Sutton, where eight vehicles and about sixty firefighters intervened. The flames had spread to the entire ground floor of a house.
When they managed to get inside, rescuers found four unconscious children. The resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, the children were declared dead upon their arrival at the hospital.
“My thoughts go out to the children's family and friends and the entire community,” Roe said.
The causes of the disaster are still unknown: on the spot, in addition to the firefighters, also the investigators of the homicide squad of the London police.
