The authorities of the Antioquia department in Colombia reported that three children died in the landslide that struck a rural school today in the town of Tapartò, municipality of Andes.

The website of the Caracol channel reports it, adding that two children and a teacher are receiving medical treatment in a health center.

The landslide occurred during recess, while there were 22 children in the building. "17 students are safe, 3 minors have died and 2 are under medical observation. All our solidarity", wrote on Twitter Juan Pablo López, sector secretary for sustainable territorial development of Antioquia. The official expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, noting that more than 200 people participated in the rescue operation .

"We give very sad news, three children lost their lives in this event", confirmed Carlos Alberto Osorio, mayor of Andes. The victims - reports Caracol - are two 5 and 6 year old girls and a 6 year old boy .

"Two stable children have been transferred to hospital, they are conscious but will continue to be under observation to ensure their condition. As for the deceased, resuscitation was attempted out of two, but they were already in a state where they could not do anything. The last to arrive was without vital signs, "explained Carlos Arroyave, director of the hospital in Andes.

The accident occurred after another landslide yesterday killed at least two people - a 2-year-old boy and a 30-year-old woman - in a town near Medellín.
