The death of Luisa Asteggiano, the 45-year-old Italian woman from Bra, found dead on Sunday morning in her apartment in Formentera "did not occur as a result of a violent event" .
A statement from the Balearic Civil Guard command reads: "After the corresponding autopsy was performed, it was determined that the death was not due to a violent event, thus ruling out gender-based violence, pending further results from analyses requested to determine the cause of death."
Luisa Asteggiano was found dead on Sunday around 8:00 a.m. in her apartment in Es Pujols, a tourist resort on Formentera, where she had lived for years. Civil Guard investigators who responded to the scene initially did not rule out any possibility, including that she might have been the victim of femicide.
Ivan Sauna, 51, originally from Busto Arsizio (Varese), his partner, who was at home at the time of the discovery, was questioned and subsequently placed in judicial police custody .
The defense of the man, known on the island for having run an agency for renting tourist accommodation in Ibiza and Formentera, had claimed that the injuries on the woman's body were "compatible with a domestic accident" .
Sauna, following the autopsy, was released .
