A general of the Revolutionary Guards, Iran's ideological army, was killed in Syria in an attack near Damascus blamed on Israel.

This was reported by the official Iranian news agency IRNA.

General Razi Moussavi, one of the Guardians' most experienced advisors in Syria, was killed in an "attack by the Zionist regime a few hours ago" in the Sayyida Zeinab neighborhood, south of Damascus, IRNA said.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi declared that Israel "will certainly pay" for this episode, "a crime that is undoubtedly another sign of the frustration, impotence and inability of the Zionist regime in the region."
