A request that President Herzog also spoke today , according to which the reform does nothing but "weaken the judicial system" .

Herzog appealed directly to the prime minister, also referring to the unrest in the country: «We have witnessed very difficult scenes . I appeal to the Prime Minister, members of the government and members of the coalition. For the sake of the unity of the people of Israel, for the sake of the responsibility to which we are obliged, I invite you to immediately interrupt the legislative process » of the reform, he specified in a letter.

For 11 weeks , Israelis have taken to the streets to protest what is considered a blitz to dismantle democracy .

“The rift in society is involving the army. This situation represents a serious and imminent danger for the country . I will not allow it,” Gallant stressed.

Meanwhile, leaders of the anti-judicial reform protests have called a mass demonstration at 2pm (local time) in front of the Knesset in Jerusalem .

"We will not allow any compromise - they argued - that damages the independence of the Supreme Court". They have asked that Minister Gallant, fired by Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu, be brought back to defense responsibility.

Today the government convened a Commission which intends to modify the mechanism for appointing judges to the Court, ensuring that the political majority has primacy in the choice.
